FB Skin & Wellness - The Perfect Downtown Day Spa I love to feature local businesses and this week I had the pleasure of meeting with Franziska Bernhard or “Z” with FB Skin & Wellness. FB Skin & Wellness History It probably won’t surprise you the Fanziska is not originally from Amelia Island! Switzerland is where Franziska calls home and it is where she began her career. Early on she understood the balance of life and body. Franziska mastered the art of mind and body over the last 12 years and how they work together to create the whole person. Her approach to each client is with the goal of them leaving a better version of themselves. Using multiple techniques she finds the right combination to give her clients the best experience possible. One of her business models is to take on less clients each day which allows her to give so much more to each person. Her services don’t stop at facials, you will also get her mastery of the holistic approach to creating a space for relaxation, healing and inner peace. Her cozy space immediately makes you feel like your getting a warm hug. The room has a magical feel with the sounds, lights and of course Franziska! Getting to know Franziska and FB Skin & Wellness The business is just one side to Franziska. Getting to know the person behind the brand is often the best part of these interviews. Fraziska grew up in Switzerland and had dreams of being a dancer. She started her adult career as a elementary school teacher. She received a 1 year scholarship to come to the states to dance. She was fortunate to turn that dream into a reality when she joined a contemporary dance group in NYC. Fraziska met her now husband and it was a life match. They settled in New York and began carriers and growing their family with a daughter who is responsible for bringing FB Skin & Wellness to Fernandina Beach. Her daughter is a wildlife biologist and landing here in Fernandina Beach.. which brought her parents in to visit and as most people do they fell in love with the island. Some surprising or not so surprising facts she shared were she is an expert at milking a cow (actually not an easy thing to do) she is also tuned to all the subtle nudges we all get from the world around us. I believe this is what makes her special and gives her the ability to renourish more than just skin with her clients. Franziska clearly loves what she does – her personality shines through to every person she touches. VIEW ORIGINAL ARTICLE HERE.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Franziska Bernhard. Hi Franziska, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories. My decade-long practice has been about connecting inner beauty to the outer self and creating harmony for the whole person. A dual Licensed Esthetician, Certified Oncology Esthetician, Reiki Master, and Yoga Instructor, these multiple disciplines allow me to address a client’s life circumstances and goals to translate into physical and noticeable changes. After spending 20 years in the fashion industry, I yearned for a meaningful profession. Being able to assist clients in letting go of an impossible ideal and rather nurture the soul has been a dream come true. Enhancing your beauty and striving for healthy skin is more realistic than trying to follow every fad and trend. My goal is not perfection; it is peace. We address the client’s issues – like getting rid of breakouts, calming rosacea, and reducing signs of aging – but we honor skin at all points in our lifecycle. Only when you appreciate your natural beauty can you exude it to those around you. Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome? Having owned a successful spa in NY, starting over in a brand new place is scary. I still need to get a following in Fernandina Beach, and I still need to get a supportive network. Will I be able to cover expenses? It’s a risk worth taking! I knew the first time I visited this gem of an island, I had found MY paradise. I have never been happier! Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about FB Skin & Wellness? FB Skin & Wellness is Fernandina Beach’s newest luxury spa. Offerings range from bespoke facials to result-oriented skincare to guided meditation and hypnosis. FB Skin and Wellness is about connecting the inner beauty to the outer self and creating harmony for the whole person. Rather than chasing some unattainable, ever-changing ideal, I incorporate esthetics, sound therapy, and meditation to help my clients feel refreshed and cared for. Providing my clients with results-driven treatments and guiding them toward inner peace sets FB Skin & Wellness apart in the beauty business. “It’s More Than A Facial” has come to characterize my holistic approach in many client reviews. Believing that the power of the hands, of actual touch, is paramount to my practice, I specialize in result-oriented skin treatments combined with pampering and nurturing that leaves you recharged and refreshed. Opening FB Skin & Wellness in paradise, I am thrilled to welcome you to downtown Fernandina Beach, where upscale restaurants, quaint shops, art galleries, and live music give the perfect atmosphere for my rejuvenating and inner-self-affirming treatments. The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us? The best lesson I learned during the Covid-19 crisis was to slow down. To check in with me, to listen to my true needs. I used to be overscheduled, overworked, busy, busy. Being forced to stay home for months helped me find my inner peace. I only need or want so many things. I treasure time and connection with my loved ones above all else. During the crisis I was called to be of service, and being able offer complimentary oncology services to those affected by cancer treatment has brought so much joy and a sense of gratitude to my life. Add the newest trendy Instagram filter, retouched ads and surgically altered celebrities; that ideal is just impossible to achieve. You must let go of the idea that beauty is perfect! You are not a plastic doll; you are a living being, with pores, scars, stretch marks. Don’t fall for the beauty trap! Remember the multi-million-dollar beauty and fitness industry wants you to believe that you’re not enough. How else would you try to transform yourself at the expense of your time, your mental and physical health, and most of all, your money? Do you want to know the secret to beauty? Self love! Start accepting your wonderful, glorious, wild self! Take time to cultivate that and stop being so critical of yourself. Those voices are lying. Don’t compare yourself to others; there is only one you, and you are exactly how you’re supposed to be. We are all conditioned to focus only on a perceived flaw, to obsess over it and to think that our whole life would be better if only that nose was smaller, the thighs thinner and the skin clearer. Please look at the whole picture—all of you, your kindness, your talents, your warm smile, your amazing cooking, the way only you can make your loved one feel better, your artistic talent, your warm embrace. Ditch the often-dangerous pursuit of a ridiculous ideal and use that time and funds for self-care. Activate the parasympathetic nervous system by spending time in nature, getting a massage or facial, practicing meditation, playing with animals or children, practicing yoga or tai chi, trying progressive relaxation, receiving reiki, or doing your favorite hobby. By strengthening your parasympathetic nervous system, you cause a relaxation response in the body and you lessen anxiety. There are few things that adversely affect your looks and your vibe like stress does. Meditation is my favorite way to bring mind, body, and spirit together. This alignment promotes less stress, more overall happiness, and vibrant beauty from within. Research shows that meditation reduces the body’s cortisol levels, reducing acne and slowing down the aging process. Support your body and skin by starting a simple routine. Dry brush twice a week in the morning before you shower. This helps get rid of toxins, boosts circulation, aids in lymphatic drainage, exfoliates, and plumps the skin. After the shower, use a good moisturizer. Start a simple skincare routine. Three to four products are all you need: an appropriate cleanser, a vitamin C serum, a moisturizer and SPF. Do not follow TikTok advice, but go to a trained skincare specialist to get customized recommendations. This is the perfect time to practice being kind to yourself. As you are applying the products, say loving affirmations and words of gratitude and appreciation. Celebrate the unique, special, extraordinary beauty you are. So happy to be part of the Fernandina Beach community. I’m excited to have opened my aesthetic studio to nurture the already abundant beauties I see everyday here on Amelia Island.
Aesthetician Franziska Bernhard, a former ballerina and model, opened her beauty studio, RadianZ, in West Sayville’s historic Green House. Taking a personalized and artistic approach to skincare and facials, Bernhard has long standing clientele.Posted Thursday, January 28, 2021 12:00 am
Sam Desmond With the true question of beauty not whether you have it, but for how long you keep it, an aesthetician is like a fairy godmother for all things skin deep, and in the case of veteran aesthetician Franziska Bernhard, who recently opened RadianZ Studio in West Sayville, even those matters that get under your skin. Naming her establishment, a “studio” instead of a “spa,” Bernhard feels that each person is a canvas and that aesthetics are just the entryway into the lifeblood of someone’s world. “We as a society invoke this impossible, perfect ideal, but the purpose of this studio is to nurture the soul,” she noted. This artistic approach towards beauty comes from Bernhard’s rich background in the arts from, being a ballerina to a model for brands like Bottega Venetta. During her life’s journey, she learned to maintain the highest bar for beauty, but discovered that to sustain “the look,” it was necessary to emanate that glow from the inside. “My vision for RadianZ [whose pun comes from Bernhard’s nickname, ‘Z’] was a place where you could retreat and recharge,” said Bernhard of her cozy but plush and inviting macaron pink-orange space in West Sayville’s historical Green House. An 18th-century home that once received and revived George Washington on a weary trip, the ambiance is perfect for the warm and welcoming reception of Bernhard’s studio that offers person- alized facials for teenagers to mature skin. “Your needs change as you get older and it’s important to adjust your routine to fit your new stage in life,” said Bernhard. RadianZ’s “teen facial” is geared towards calming the skin, typically abundant with activity that is sometimes to its detriment, and creating a routine that is meant to continue the soothing treatments. “There are some overaggressive treatments prescribed to teenagers with cystic acne and it just creates so many prob- lems, often with lasting effects,” lamented Bernhard of clients who came to her with severely dried skin after strenuous topicals. For older clients, where keratin build- up is common as the skin-sloughing process (where dead skin cells are shed) is not as robust as in youth, Bernhard employs luscious enzymatic masks to combat maturing skin. But Bernhard’s loyal clientele attest to her prowess as a diagnostician as well as an aesthetician, and come from as far as Manhattan and Montauk for her services. One client, who has been with her for over 10 years, came in with her mother (also a client) to address her acne issues, which, under Bernhard’s hands, cleared up and never came back. “There is a magic to the hands that you just can’t get from machines, “said Bernhard. “When I am having a treatment, I want someone who is attentive to me at all times, not just going to switch on a machine and leave.” With facials from 60 to 90 minutes, Bernhard’s treatments are not only for the body, but for the soul, as she provides some gratis energy healing to her clients. “When you heal from the inside, it shows on the outside,” said Bernhard, a certified energy healer who also provides hypnotherapy. Certified in oncology aesthetics, Bernhard offers free services to those in cancer treatment. “My goal is not perfection, it is peace,” said Bernhard. “We address my clients’ issues — like getting rid of breakouts or calming down rosacea — but we honor skin at all points in our lifecycle, because only when you appreciate natural beauty can you exude it to those around you." |
